CONCERNED, INC.

OUTCOMES MEASUREMENT REPORT – 2009

Concerned, Inc. provides training and supports to people with disabilities in the following areas:  Organizational Employment, Community Employment, HCBS/Residential and Adult Day Services.  Services in Organizational Employment, HCBS, and Adult Day Services are provided in Harlan and Community Employment Services are provided primarily in the Harlan area, although we have begun to develop jobs in neighboring communities.  Concerned, Inc. is located at 1812 Industrial Parkway in Harlan, Iowa.  We purchased the 52,500 square foot building in 2004 using grants, USDA loans and public donations.  Concerned, Inc. has been occupying the building since April 2005.  The purchase of the space has allowed Concerned, Inc. to increase and maintain our client population of 90 in Organizational Employment and 31 in Adult Day Services.  Our ultimate goal is to become financially solvent agency.  With our current location we are able to continually increase the number of clients we serve and the services we can offer, thus showing an increase in revenue.  The mission of Concerned, Inc. is to empower people to obtain their highest level of independence.  Our mission is held in constant priority by the staff, Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Concerned, Inc. identified our agency goals for 2009.  Our first goal was to maintain and hire new employees by providing non-monetary benefits to the employees.  In October 2008 Concerned, Inc. implemented a wage freeze which continues through 2009 and is currently in effect for 2010.  The way that we are off setting the wage freeze to maintain current employees is by gifting paid day off cards at annual evaluations and whenever deemed necessary by supervisors.   Goal #2 was to research options to improve the ventilation system in our wood/saw room.  By July of 2009 we were receiving twice as much contract work than our wood room could handle.  Research began, bids were taken, and the renovation began to move the wood room to the very north end of our building.  In December of 2009 the wood room was moved.  Prior to December 2009 we were occupying a wood room of 720 sq. ft. in size.  We are now occupying a wood room of 6600 sq. ft. in size.  The research was completed and the ventilation system has been purchased but hasn’t yet arrived.  It will be installed as soon as it does.  Promoting the services and enterprise business of Concerned, Inc. was Goal #3.   We followed the agency’s marketing plan for 2009.  We had a full page ad and a ½ page ad in the local newspaper and numerous small ones throughout the rest of the year.  We purchased radio ads with the local radio station.  We continuously use our website as a way to promote our agency and it is updated on a regular basis.  We are Chamber of Commerce members and renew our membership annually.  We continue to participate in community events such as the Walk for Autism, Relay for Life, Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, and Adopt a Family at Christmas, etc.   Goal #4 – Concerned, Inc. will research and purchase a new company vehicle in 2009.  This goal was met.  Concerned, Inc. purchased a passenger van in March 2009 which is being used for agency transporting needs.  We also purchased a 12 pallet straight truck in July 2009 for production and increased contract work needs.   Concerned, Inc. has met the goals set for 2009.  We will report on these goals for 2010 which are identified in our accessibility and strategic plan.

1.)     Complete construction to make the north door of the wood room wheelchair accessible by June 2009.

2.)     Recruit and increase clientele for all agency programs.

3.)     Maintain and hire new employees by developing ways to provide non-monetary benefits to employees due to the current wage freeze that is in place.

4.)     Concerned, Inc. will continue to promote our services by following the marketing plan, local newspaper and radio ads.

 SUMMARY

Concerned, Inc. continues to demonstrate a customer-driven philosophy.  Client choice and individuality are the primary aspects of providing quality services to the people we serve.  With the addition of our building and new services offered we have progressed in meeting those individual’s specific needs.  We will continue to explore new services to provide, in the most cost-effective manner, yet always keeping our mission and values in the forefront of our agency’s philosophy.  We are aware of our strengths and also where our weaknesses lie.  We will again utilize the information we gather and the input from our customers to improve the way we provide services to them.  We are very proud of the accomplishments we have already achieved and look forward of future possibilities.
