Kathy Mahlberg, Director

Kathy Mahlberg serves as a Director on the Board of Concerned, Inc. and brings extensive experience in banking, compliance, and community engagement. She currently serves as Vice President and Compliance Officer at Shelby County State Bank, where she oversees regulatory compliance and works closely with bank examiners to ensure adherence to lending laws and regulations. Kathy’s professional background also includes many years as a real estate mortgage lender, helping individuals and families purchase and refinance their homes.

Kathy earned a degree in Banking and Finance from Des Moines Area Community College and continues ongoing professional training to stay current with evolving banking and lending regulations. Her expertise includes financial oversight, regulatory compliance, housing, and strategic planning, all of which support her contributions to the Board.

In addition to her professional work, Kathy has a strong history of service to her community. She served for ten years on the Harlan Community School District Board of Education and has volunteered as a religious education teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. She has also spent more than a decade as a prayer partner at Shelby County Catholic Schools, reflecting her long-standing commitment to education and faith-based service.

Kathy chose to serve on the Board of Concerned, Inc. after seeing the meaningful impact the organization had on her sister-in-law’s daily life. Through Concerned, she witnessed firsthand how members gain purpose, develop life skills, and grow toward greater independence. On the Board, Kathy focuses on finance, housing, and long-term planning.

Kathy is motivated by the life-changing opportunities Concerned, Inc. provides and is committed to helping ensure the organization’s continued success for future generations. She shares the organization’s vision of empowering individuals to achieve their highest level of independence. Kathy lives in Earling, Iowa, and enjoys spending time with family, camping during the summer months, gardening, and traveling. Her guiding principle reflects her belief in service: The greatest gift you can give someone is your time.
