Elaine Baughman, Board Treasurer
Elaine Baughman serves as Treasurer of the Board for Concerned, Inc. and brings a lifelong commitment to education, community service, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. A retired special education teacher from Harlan Community High School, Elaine dedicated her career to supporting students with exceptional needs, with a particular focus on transition planning from school to adult living.
Elaine holds a Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Her professional expertise includes special education, transition services, and a deep institutional knowledge of Concerned, Inc., gained through more than two decades of board service.
In addition to her role with Concerned, Inc., Elaine has been actively involved in numerous community and nonprofit organizations. Her service includes the Shelby County Extension Council, Shelby County Historical Society, Kirkman United Methodist Church, United Women in Faith, the Shelby County Fair, and the Shelby County Farmers Market, reflecting her strong dedication to community enrichment and volunteer leadership.
Elaine joined the Board of Concerned, Inc. in 2003 after witnessing firsthand the need for strong adult services to support students transitioning out of the school system. Over the years, she has served in multiple leadership roles, including Board Secretary and now Treasurer, and continues to be a strong advocate for the organization’s mission.
Elaine is motivated by her belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to live an independent, fulfilling, and happy adult life. She values Concerned, Inc.’s role in helping individuals reach their full potential and is proud to support its ongoing impact in the community. Elaine resides in Kirkman, Iowa, and enjoys gardening, reading, and quilting. Her guiding principle is simple: Be all you can be.
